It is a mistake to blindly emulate a professional.
And it's the X factor and 'resistance' rearing its head again.

Our bodies are not meant to have the shoulders turn without the hips aiding in the process. Anyone who can do shoulder turn without moving the hips at all is going to be one of the rare extremely flexible people out there. This is not something that 99% of people can physically do.
The pros are pros for a reason. They are extremely flexible, strong, athletic and co-ordinated.
Watch them and have fun.
However, for the most us, stick with turning the hips. Nicklaus, Snead, Hogan, Singh, Els, Bobby Jones, Bubba Watson, Couples all do it.

Just make sure when visiting these bodybuilding forums, they are golf specific as bodybuilding type training can kill your golf swing.

Repetative sports injuries can be prevented with proper sport specific preparation involving sport specific strength and flexibility conditioning. 50% or more of all golfing injuries could have been prevented if golfers took more of a preventative approach.

I would like to post the following story:

Tiger’s caddy, Steve Williams, joined his kiwi mates in New York yesterday (just hours after Tiger won the season ending TOUR Championship). Why the quick stop in NY?

Speight’s, New Zealand’s famous beer, sent five Kiwi’s on a boat from NZ to London (three months at sea!) to bring a Speight’s pub to London. It’s a great, long story yet true – check out the details at www.speights.co.nz. And since the boat stopped in NY for 48 hours, Stevie wanted to join up and hang with his mates for the day. They spent the morning at the Empire States Building, then took in a golf lesson at Randall’s Island in the City and finally then off to the Yankees game last night.

Just a classic idea. As they say in NZ, kiwi-genius.

For Immediate Release

TIGER WOODS REVEALS HIS FITNESS REGIMEN IN THE AUGUST ISSUE
OF MEN’S FITNESS MAGAZINE
-On newsstands June 29, 2007-

June 29, 2007 – After more than a decade on the PGA Tour, Tiger Woods talks to Men’s Fitness magazine for the first time about his private fitness regimen.

Woods gives Men’s Fitness unprecedented access to his workout regimen, including exclusive access to his trainer Keith Kleven, who has been with Woods throughout his pro career. Both go into detail about their unique approach which “treats golf as a sport.” Woods adds, “I let other people treat it like a hobby. It would be asinine for someone not to work out and go play football. It doesn’t make sense for golf, either.”

Kleven’s regimen has earned Woods recognition as one of the fittest athletes in the world, combining weight training, core training, and running. Readers will notice from the photos that this isn’t the same golfer they once knew. Now buff and chiseled with definition, Woods explains that he added muscle later in life, going from 158 pounds to nearly 185 pounds.

“Around my mid-20s, I changed naturally. I was able to lay down muscle for the first time, and I was able to keep it. It was exciting, I’d never experienced that before…all that work was starting to show up.” But the golfer tells the magazine he won’t push himself to the point of pain in the weight room. “Some people let ego get in their way. You have to listen to your inner self. Your body knows what it can and can’t handle. It knows when it can be pushed and when you just need to back off a little bit.”

Woods is as dedicated to his workout as he is about his swing. Kleven refers to Woods’s training sessions as, “two to three hours of focus.” “He loves to work out. A lot of athletes don’t like to train; he thrives on it,” says Kleven.

Woods isn’t the only active person in his family. His wife, Elin, is a dedicated runner. “She still works out…there’s no doubt I’m faster than she is, but there’s no doubt she can run a lot longer than I can. If we were doing a half marathon, she’d smoke me.”

For more information, pick up the August issue of Men’s Fitness magazine, on newsstands June 29th.
