My Ball Landed in the Garbage Can

If you are ever playing golf and you find that your golf ball made a perfect hole in one in the wrong hole, the garbage can at the next tee box, you don’t have to worry about a penalty. Unless of course you are out of bounds.

If you do find that you made perfect aim at the wrong hole and your golf ball is sitting amongst the trash you can remove the ball from the trash and drop it on the ground next to the trash, no closer to the hole. If you are able to move the trash can you must place the ball directly below where your ball lay in the can prior to moving the trash can.

Doing this during a regular golf round is completely legal and you won’t incur any penalty strokes.

Re ball in trash can.If the trash can is a movable obstruction then you may remove it, if your ball is difficult to retrieve you can substitute another ball. Once you retrieve/substitute your ball then you must drop “not” place the ball as near as possible to where the ball lay when it was in the trash if through the green.

If the trash can is immovable, then you get relief by determining the nearest point of relief plus 1 club length no nearer the hole and you drop the retrieved ball or the substituted ball. please review r 24 and 20.

I think this site is a great idea and could be a real help to golfers not familiar with the rules.

Please have another look at rule 24. if your ball is in a trash can , and you can move it then you must drop a ball not place it as close as possible to the spot where it lay when it was in the trash can. If you can’t move the trash can it is considered an immovable obstruction and you take relief by finding the nearest point of relief plus a club length and then dropping your ball according to rule 20. If the ball is not retrievable then you can use another ball.
Make the rules as simple as possible but lets be correct.
This site has great potential to help the new golfer. Also, here are 2 sites your readers might like to visit http://www.usga.org and http://www.rcga.org they have some video’s and animations that the new golfer may appreciate
